South West Water engineer Alan Rockey is preparing for his 100th half marathon next weekend for international charity WaterAid.

Alan, aged 51, from Woodbury, will be competing in Exeter's Great West Run next Sunday (13 October).

It will be his 18th Great West Run and sixth time he has run for water industry charity WaterAid. Alan's raised £1,000 over the years for WaterAid and £10,000 in total for charitable causes.

Alan, who has worked for South West Water for 23 years, said: "I completed my first half marathon in the Falkland Islands in 1987 when I was in the Army. I just enjoy running for my personal fitness but also for the camaraderie as I get to know people and chat on the way round the course.

"Working for South West Water, I truly value the work WaterAid is doing to transform lives in the world's poorest communities with something so simple as clean water and sanitation. I hope the funds I raise will go towards supporting the good work they achieve."

Vanessa Ashton, WaterAid's Water Industry Partnership Manager for South West and Wales, said: "Huge congratulations and thank you to Alan for his dedication and perseverance running 100 half-marathons! His tireless support means that we can make a real difference to some of the world's poorest communities and help others take the first steps out of poverty."

Alan has also run eight full marathons including five London Marathons.
