Soft play centre Raze the Roof, in Penryn, will be opening its doors for free as part of South West Water's Love Your Loo campaign, which encourages everyone only to flush the 3Ps - pee, paper and poo.

Falmouth and Penryn have a history of sewer blockages and flooding, which can be caused by people inappropriately flushing baby wipes, hygiene wipes, moist toilet tissue, cleaning wipes, cleansing pads and sanitary products.

South West Water is inviting parents and children to enjoy a soft play session at Raze the Roof free of charge between 9am and 4pm on Monday 4 July.

Free tea and coffee will be available for parents while their toddlers enjoy the facilities, and members of the Love Your Loo team will be on hand to spread the 3Ps message and give away free sample boxes of disposal bags.

South West Water's Becky Moran explained: "We hope that hosting free play sessions at Raze the Roof will be a fun and memorable way of spreading the Love Your Loo message.

"The good news is that most people* claim only to flush the 3Ps down the loo.

"But some people** admit to inappropriately flushing baby wipes, hygiene wipes, moist toilet tissue, cleaning wipes, cleansing pads and sanitary products. This contributes to the 8,500 blocked sewers we deal with every year, which costs about £4.5million and adds to bills.

"In 2014 we did some research to find out why people flush the wrong things. People told us they were confused about what can and can't be flushed. Sometimes that's because the packaging is misleading. Many products say they are flushable and biodegradable - but they take so long to break down that they build up in pipes and cause blockages.

"We are working with the rest of the water industry to encourage manufacturers and retailers to label their products responsibly. In the meantime, our customers told us they think it's our job to tell them what can and can't be flushed - so that's exactly what we've been doing.

"We know that toddler toilet training can be tricky, so we'll be encouraging parents to make things simpler by keeping a bin near all the loos in their home and disposal bags handy. Then it's easy to bag and bin used wipes."
