Surrounded by impressive sand dunes and breathtaking cliffs, Challaborough is a sheltered sandy beach nestled on the South Devon coast. A popular destination with surfers and body boarders, the beach is a good choice for walkers who can enjoy a stroll along the coastal path.

With the nearby holiday park offering entertainment and plenty of other water sports, the cove is bursting with activity for the perfect family holiday in the South West.

Water quality

  • Benefits from the 1995 Bigbury and Challaborough Clean Sweep scheme
  • Aveton Gifford sewage treatment works offers secondary treatment before discharge through an outfall at Warren Point. This discharge is designed to protect bathing water quality
  • There are three emergency/storm overflows affecting this bathing water. These overflows exist to protect homes, gardens, roads and open spaces from sewer flooding normally after storms
  • Bathing water quality in this area can be affected by urban drainage and agricultural runoff.

Swimming, surfing, windsurfing and walks.

Parking at Ringmore Car Park. Toilets, shops, campsite and food facilities nearby. RNLI Lifeguard service 21 May - 18 September. No Surf Life Saving GB club at this beach, nearest Surf Life Saving GB club is Bantham Surf Life Saving Club.

The steeply shelving beach creates a fast wave but the take-off area is small. The best conditions are at low tide when a group of waves hits the shore.
