The long sandy beach situated to the north of Preston Sands is a colourful traditional family resort. Rock pools form in the bright red sand at low tide. Behind the beach there is a safe area for children to play.

With a host of eating and drinking facilities nearby and an amusement arcade on the pier, Preston Sands is a popular choice for visitors to the South Devon coast.

Water quality

  • Benefits from the 2002 Torbay Clean Sweep scheme
  • Brokenbury sewage treatment works offers secondary treatment with ultraviolet disinfection before discharge through an outfall at Sharkham Point. This discharge is designed to protect bathing water quality
  • There are two emergency/storm overflows affecting this bathing water. Overflows exist to protect homes, gardens, roads and open spaces from sewer flooding normally after storms
  • Bathing water quality in this area can be affected by urban drainage.

Swimming, paddling and walks.

Parking at a large public car park opposite the entrance to the beach. Toilets, shops, food and litter bins. No Surf Life Saving GB club at this beach (Nearest club is Torbay Surf Life Saving Club at Goodrington beach).
