A favourite flat sandy beach for families visiting the English Riviera, Paignton Sands offers easy access and plenty of entertainment on the pier for visitors. Behind the beach, there's a large grassy green on which events are staged most weekends. There's also a host of beach kiosks and cafes lining the beach with pedalos and boats for hire.

It's also a perfect location for swimming and water sports with town centre shops a short stroll away. Paignton Sands is a safe and clean environment for children with the shallow sea ideal for paddling.

Water quality

  • Benefits from the 2002 Torbay Clean Sweep scheme
  • Brokenbury sewage treatment works offers secondary treatment with ultraviolet disinfection before discharge through an outfall at Sharkham Point. This discharge is designed to protect bathing water quality
  • There are two emergency/storm overflows affecting this bathing water. Overflows exist to protect homes, gardens, roads and open spaces from sewer flooding normally after storms
  • Bathing water quality in this area can be affected by urban drainage.
