Located on the north coast of Cornwall, Mawgan Porth is a rural, sandy beach backed by sand dunes and cliffs. A popular resort with families and surfers due to its exposure to Atlantic swells.

Water quality

  • Benefits from the 1994 Clean Sweep scheme for St Columb Major
  • The outfall from the sewage treatment works discharges into the River Menalhyl upstream from the beach and is disinfected and designed to protect bathing water quality
  • There are emergency/storm overflows from Trenance Porth and Mawgan Porth pumping stations. These overflows exist to protect homes, gardens, roads and open spaces from sewer flooding normally after storms
  • Bathing water quality in this area can be affected by urban and agricultural drainage.
